While there are no exact boundaries that specify where upper East Tennessee is located, it is generally accepted that Northeast Tennessee is comprised of everything north and east of Morristown. Upper East Tennessee offers exceptional mountain views, beautiful lakes and rivers, and access to numerous hiking, skiing, and other recreational facilities like Bristol Motor Speedway. Northeast Tennessee also offers level land, gently rolling hills, and steep mountain terrain. Climate

Northeast Tennessee has a moderate climate overall. In January, the average high temperature is approximately 40 degrees Fahrenheit while the low averages around 25 degrees. July's average temperatures are roughly 89 degrees Fahrenheit for the high and 62 degrees for the low.

Precipitation

Upper East Tennessee averages roughly 60 inches of precipitation per year, including nearly 17 inches of snow. However, in recent years, the amount of precipitation has been below normal for both, rain and snowfall. In 2007, Northeast Tennessee was about 18 inches below normal for overall precipitation. As of August 2008, the region was approximately five inches below normal.
